NDLEA ARRESTS LAGOS AIRPORT CLEANER WHO LEADS DRUG SYNDICATE 

Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos, Ohiagu Sunday, who allegedly leads a drug syndicate at the international wing of the airport.

The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Babafemi said that the suspect was nabbed on Tuesday following the arrest of an intending passenger on Airpeace flight to Dubai, UAE.

He said that the passenger named, Obinna Osita, was arrested with three bags, two of which contained eight blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 4.25kg concealed in cassava product, garri and crayfish.

He also said that one other member of the airport syndicate who worked with Ohiagu had also been arrested, while operatives were trailing another suspect.

“Investigations revealed that a Dubai-based drug dealer recruited Obinna, a 42-year-old native of Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra, to traffic the drugs.

” And equally contracted Ohiagu, a 34-year-old airport cleaner from Orlu West Local Government Area of Imo to create access for the unhindered passage of the trafficker.

“The drug syndicate bust, which is the first drug arrest at the new terminal of the MMIA comes on the heels of the seizure of a consignment of bottles of viju and fearless energy drinks.

“They were used to conceal skunk for export to Dubai, UAE through the NAHCO export shed on Monday Aug., 15, ” he said.

Babafemi said that a freight agent had already been arrested in connection with the seizure and more Investigations were still ongoing. (NAN).

It is a story of agony and loss of four children for a housewife in Adamawa State, Laraba, whose husband, Elisha Tari, has confessed to killing two of her children after the couple had earlier lost two to natural causes.

Elisha who is currently being held by the police, narrated to newsmen last week how he fatally stoned his last two children aged 3 and 5 because they disobeyed his instruction.

Elisha who is of Himike village in Michika Local Government Area was apprehended after he was reported to the police for hitting his two sons to death with stones.

The wife Laraba had earlier escaped from the husband on complaints that he attempted to kill her.

Laraba, in a news interview at the weekend, said she had four children and a miscarriage for Elisha but that two of the children died of sickness while the remaining two were killed by their own father.

She said her husband who smokes Indian help, drinks alcohol, takes tramadol and inhales snuff, has made her childless after God blessed her with children.

She lamented that she suffered bouts of domestic violence in the hands of her husband, and that the last attempt which made her escape to her parents was the day he had returned home in the night and refused to eat the food she served him.

She said he asked her to undress and to lie down, which she did, but that when he announced that he would slaughter her and was going for a cutlass to do that, she ran to her father-in-law in only her pants.

Laraba said, “I ran out of the room while he was trying to pick a cutlass to slaughter me. I escaped to the house of my father-in-law while wearing only pants that fateful night, but my father-in-law chased me out of his house, telling me that he is neither a vigilante nor a policeman.”

Laraba said she summoned courage and entered a neighbour’s house where she spent her night before leaving for her parent’s house the following day, and that it was a few days later that she was informed of how her husband had killed their remaining two children.

Emma Eregarnoma invited his mother, Mrs Oke Eregarnoma, to his house on Caroline Street, Okuokoko after he persuaded her that he had a surprise package for her.

 On getting there, she said she saw Emma in an unusual joyous mood, after he welcomed her in. He then increased the volume of his musical gadgets. Oke alleged that her son locked the door and made moves to.       strangle and pluck off her eyes, as she screamed for help, adding that no one heard her due to the loud music.

She said after fighting with his son for some minutes she regained her strength and ran outside for help, while neighbours came to her rescue.

Mrs Oke Eregarnoma, while narrating her ordeal to journalists on a hospital bed where she was recuperating, recalled that before the attack, her son boasted that “he must drive GLK this week.

Two years ago, I was adorned with one of the highest prestigious ranks in the legal profession, but then tragedy struck - I lost my son, then began to struggle with my health: had a heart condition, and soon one organ after the other in my system began to have issues; had loss of appetite and weight loss automatically set in; one of the therapies required the complete elimination of salt from my diet.

It didn’t stop there, the whirlwind of tragedy also showed up in my workplace. I lost my biggest clients, had a national disgrace by one of my old clients, juniors I had trained and nurtured as if they were family, revolted against me and attempted to take over the office or cripple it. As a young Senior Advocate of Nigeria, I suffered a constant loss of opportunities because of the perception that one’s age is a determinant of one’s intellectual capacity. I was judged by everything I did and all these happened consecutively giving the notion that it was particularly designed to break me.

With the support of my loved ones, I had to wake up every day, put on a smile, and act as if all was well, though I was drowning in my world of seeming success.

All these made me realize that I was just human and not immune to crisis or tragedy. With all the opportunities, privileges and protocols available to me, I still have challenges like every other human. I realized that the attainment of Silk is only but a rank and the highest privilege a lawyer can ever hope to have, which must be treated with reverence and care, lest you get consumed.

Of a truth, uncertain of what the future holds but knowing that the greatest failure is – ‘the failure of not trying’, I have resolved not to be broken or discouraged, but to take one day at a time, with God on my side.

I have taken time to pen down these words in this manner today with only one purpose in mind: to encourage myself and others out there. It is without doubt that the storms of life assail everyone, perhaps at different times. Nonetheless, we must refuse to let circumstances stop us from persevering to be the best we can be in our chosen paths or careers. Do not let ‘that challenge' stop you!

My journey as a Silk, husband, father, brother and friend, has made me appreciate the much I have to live for. It has also caused me to take decisive action towards ensuring that as much as it lies within my control, the less fortunate get a fighting chance at success – just as I was given one.

To celebrate my second anniversary as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, I will be sponsoring two (2) indigent law students to the Nigerian Law School and with God on my side, I will increase it every year according to the number of my years at the Inner Bar.

I will at this juncture, congratulate my fellow brothers and sisters celebrating their anniversary at the Inner Bar and also call on them to join me on this adventure to strengthen our interconnectedness, by putting smiles on the faces of intending lawyers.

With this #InnerBarChallenge, we will once again take up brick and mortar and together, join efforts, towards providing opportunities to persons without hope because we have so much to be grateful for.
